Jon and I were able to get away and go to Maui. It was a well needed and very relaxing vacation. We planned this vacation at the last minute which is not like us! Jon had a week off and we had planned on staying home, but with the nice winter weather here in Logan we wanted to get away to somewhere warm. We were lucky to be able to have everything fall into place with the kids and all the arrangements and off we went. We had a wonderful time just the two of us! Thanks to one of the nurses at the hospital that stepped in and took on 5 kids and a dog! The kids loved having Natalie here and I don't know who had more fun us or them!
These next few pictures are of Jon doing a bike ride that he has wanted to do since we were in Maui the last time. He started at sea level and road up the Haleakala Volcano and ended up at 10,000 ft. It was a 38 mile bike ride all uphill! I drove in the car and followed him up to make sure he was ok. It was quite the day to watch him do this amazing ride.
I rented a bike for 3 days and went on a few rides with Jon. Here we are doing the Ulupalakua Highway. It was a beautiful ride that followed the ocean around, we rode about 32 miles this day. We could see the ocean as we rode up and down these nice rolling hills. It was fun to see a different side of Maui.
This is the West side of Maui. We started in Kaanapali at our hotel and rode out 15 miles around the west side. It was a totally different scenery from what we did the day before. We stopped and watched the surfers for a little bit as we rode.
One day we did the road to Hana and it was pouring down rain. This is the only place we got out of the car. The rain stopped for a few minutes so we could get one picture. We even had to drive around a mudslide on the road. We can say we have done the road to Hana now, but I don't think we would do it again!
